Tomislav Brlek (b. 1971) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Comparative Literature of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb where he teaches courses from the theory and history of literature. He earned his PhD with the thesis on T. S. Eliot, published several scientific and expert articles in internationally significant publications and gave lectures on more than twenty international symposiums in Croatia and abroad. He authored one book, Lekcije – Studije o modernoj književnosti (2015), edited selected poems by Boro Pavlović, Tonči Petrasov Marović, Antun Šoljan, Ivan Slamnig and Jure Kaštelan, as well as anthologies Praksa teorije (2009) and Povratak Miroslava Krleže (2015). He is also a literary and film critic, co-editor of literary journal 15 dana, editorial board Member for the magazine for performing arts Frakcija and advisory board Member for the magazine UBIQ. He translated works by Noam Chomsky, Eric Havelock, Umberto Eco, Igor Stravinsky and Simon Critchley. He participated in several genre conventions in Croatia – among authors that provoked his special interest are Olaf Stapledon, John Brunner, Anthony Burgess and Stephen King. He is also a leading Croatian authority on David Bowie.
